HOLY TRINITY EPISCOPAL CHURCH MISSION COMMITTEE MEETING
The Mission Committee of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church met at 5:30 p.m. on June 12 in the Parish Hall. Members present were the Reverend David Lemburg, Warden Celeste Ramirez, Terry Rielley, Larry Coleman, GiGi Smith, Marilyn Vockroth, Ella Tardy, Garry Brewer, and Mary Weems. Ginger Coleman, Jimmy Burr, and James Barnett were also present.
Ella reported that a tree on the rental property was blown down during a recent storm. The tree fell on the renter's car and destroyed it. Ella contacted a tree service to have the tree and debris removed. She also contacted our insurance company. The committee decided that the church would pay the renter's insurance deductible in the amount of $750 to replace the car.
Father David reported that he is in the process of developing a web site for the church. The site is hosted and maintained by the Diocese at no charge. He will post new pictures monthly and will regularly update news, events, and calendars. He asked that members offer suggestions and corrections for the site. The address for the site is //trinitycrystalsprings.dioms.org.
Mary reported that she had received quotes from Bell South for telephone and Internet service. The committee voted to get the bundle including local service (one phone line), long distance, and fast access Internet at a yearly charge of approximately $1616. Mary will call and arrange installation.
Plans for the Tomato Festival were discussed. We will remind members about contributing, and we will provide a sign-up sheet on Sunday for them to volunteer to work. The following persons will organize specific events:
- Ella, Celeste, Jimmy, and James - rummage sale
- Mary - bake saleDaphne - face painting
- Miya - tomato sandwiches
- Marilyn - jelly and jam
- Terry - slush machine
Ginger reported that she had gotten a quote for replacing the sign at the front of the church. She also showed the committee two examples of possible designs. The committee voted to use a cross symbol rather than a trinity symbol. The sign will be two-sided and consist of two aluminum panels. Ginger reported that Larry has sanded and repainted the sign frame. It was decided to get a separate attachment to the sign that will show the vicar's name.
It was noted that shingles from the steeple and/or roof are continuing to fall. Celeste reported that there was no money in the budget for a new roof. After some discussion, it was decided that we would continue to consider various needs and constraints for the church property and look at possible funding sources for improvement.
Celeste reported that she had talked with the realtor about showing the rental property to prospective buyers. It was decided that we would wait one month then instruct the realtor to notify the renter that we will be selling the property.
Ella reported that there were no significant changes in the financial report with the exception of an expense of $900 to remove the fallen tree. Those charges will probably be reimbursed by insurance.
Father David asked the committee if there were any liturgical concerns. He reported that the cross at the front of the church should not be draped except during Passion Week. It was decided to remove the drape.
Christian education classes will continue on Tuesday evenings. We will begin in the Parish Hall at 5:30 and discuss the Gospel reading for the following Sunday for approximately an hour. Those interested will continue discussions at someone's home.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:20.
