HOLY TRINITY EPISCOPAL CHURCH MISSION COMMITTEE MEETING
October 14, 2007
The Mission Committee of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church met at 8:30 a.m. on October 14 in the Parish Hall. Members present were the Reverend David Lemburg, Warden Celeste Ramirez, Larry Coleman, Terry Rielley, and Mary Weems.
It was reported that Larry and Ginger Coleman were moving. Fr. David asked the Committee to consider another church member to replace Larry on the Mission Committee. Fr. David will contact the remaining members who were not present. It was decided that the Committee could function with a Warden, Treasurer, and four additional members. The meetings will be moved back to 5:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month and will take the place of Christian education.
The Bishop's request to raise the church's Voluntary Proportional Giving by 2% next year was discussed. The VPG is currently $4000. The Committee decided to honor the Bishop's request and increase the pledge proportionally by 2% for the next year.
It was reported that Betty Dabney has announced her retirement as organist for the church. The Committee decided to try various options and determine what is most effective for the worship services. Terry will get information about computer-generated music, Mary will operate the digital hymnal next Sunday, and all members will search for a pianist or organist who is available. We will also try services with no music and singing the songs a cappella. There was discussion about a way to recognize Betty's service to the church. A decision will be made after discussions with the church membership.
Fr. David cautioned members to recognize the changing demographics of the church and not to be overly sensitized. We should use discretion in discussing situations with the community and other church members.
With the inconsistent attendance of some of the regularly scheduled servers and crucifers, Fr. David suggested that we use only one person for the crucifer and server duties. He will talk with members to determine whether they want to continue serving, and a decision about scheduling will be made for November.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:30
